Transformation (as we like it) 20XX (MATERIAL)
This piece is firstly what you see; an arrangement of rectangular forms, a gradation in size and a value scale of violet. The transitions are visible and each stage feels meaningfully part of the larger whole. In contrast to the work Undetected Transitions on the opposite wall, this work reflects the way we often desire for transformation and progress to happen; traceable versus undetected. Even though the transitions are visible, there are still undetected parts to this work. What appears to be fully abstract is actually made from quite ubiquitous objects. The entire work is made from everyday product boxes from tea, Kleenex, vitamins, pasta, makeup etc. Even though we are familiar with these in their functional state, here they aren’t noticeable as such. Once objects to discard and do away with, these entities have each been modified, their interior becoming the exterior. The overall “egg” shape is a nod to Andy Goldsworthy’s egg land artworks and the insurmountable process by which he creates them.
